Understanding Yourself: A Talk for Autistic Teens & Their Parents
Bru Columbanus, Wilton. Saturday Nov 2nd 12noon to 2pm.
Tickets €12 each or 4 for €40
Brian Irwin was diagnosed with autism and dysgraphia at the age of 22 during his Repeat Leaving Cert, and has been volunteering with AsIAm.ie since 2014 as a self-advocate and school speaker to help broaden awareness and understanding of autism in the education environment. Recent experiences have seen him take a directorial position in AsIAm as their first autistic board member, speak at AsIAm conferences and other events about his experiences growing up without a diagnosis (the words "stealth autism" may have left his mouth on some occasions), drawing on his experiences with speech and drama as a tool for helping young people access and express their emotions, and hopefully helping people of all ages understand their autistic friends a little better. Brian was one of the presenters in Ireland's first ever all-autistic conference in February with AUsome Ireland.
Evaleen Whelton, founder of AUsome Ireland and Konfident Kidz, will be joined by Brian Irwin. Both speakers will share from their own experiences and offer insights from The Autistic Community and ideas on exploring you Autistic Identity
