The Key To Exam Success
At Konfident Kidz we firmly believe in the positive experience that doing exams can be for your child. Setting goals and working towards them is an extremely beneficial life skill, while the sense of achievement that succeeding at an exam can bring is second to none.
There are 3 strands of exams with the Irish Board of Speech and Drama that Konfident Kidz can prepare your child for:
1) Musical Theatre Exams
2) Grade Exams
3a) Communication Skills
3b) Public Speaking and Presentation Exams
1) Musical Theatre exams are open to our Musical Theatre students.
2) Grade exams are open to our Speech and Drama students. We would recommend these exams to any of our pupils looking to focus on performing poetry, prose and drama pieces, as well as the theory behind speech and drama.
3a) Communication Skills exams are open to our Speech and Drama students up to 9 years of age who would like to improve their ability to communicate directly with other people.
3b) Public Speaking and Presentation exams are open to our Speech and Drama students from 10 years of age onwards who would like to improve their ability to communicate directly with other people, make speeches in public, and improve their interview skills.
• If your child is in Junior Infants, Senior Infants or First class, their Konfident Kidz teacher will be able to prepare them for their exam in their Musical Theatre or Speech and Drama class. Their teacher will give out an entry form which must be completed and full fees paid by 9th October.
• If your child is in Second class or higher, they will need to enrol in one of our dedicated exam classes. These exam classes will begin on the week of the 18th September and will run for 10 weeks. The exam teacher will give out an entry form which must be completed and full fees paid by 9th October. You can book a place in an exam class here.
Each exam level has different requirements, which your child’s teacher will be happy to go through with you. You can also access the Irish Board’s syllabi here.
Yes, if they are enrolled in an exam class. If your child is in Junior Infants, Senior Infants or First Class, they can do one exam.
We encourage all of our pupils to look highly presentable on the day of their exam in order to make an excellent first impression. Casual clothes (ie. tracksuit bottoms, leggings, runners, tshirts, hoodies, sports jerseys) are not appropriate.
Preparing for the exam at home is essential for your child to do well. They should practise their pieces at home as often as possible. Practising in front of other people will also help your child to grow in confidence in their own ability. Your child’s teacher will write any additional things to practise into their workbook/copybook on a weekly basis.

It was great to get the opportunity to perform for an examiner from The London College in a one to one exam from a young age.
The life skills I gained from these exams are irreplaceable. I developed self confidence that I carry with me today and no doubt, the memorising of exam pieces aided my memory when it came to school work.
After completing a grade each year I then went on to complete my Diploma in teaching Speech and Drama and can proudly call myself a qualified Speech and Drama teacher after all those years of hard work!
I’m delighted to have completed the teaching diploma and I’m excited to see where it takes me in the future. I know that taking Speech & Drama exams has given me an advantage when it comes to interviews, college presentations, orals exams and so on.
